Former WSOP Main Event winner Huck Seed outlasted a field of over 60 of the worlds best heads-up poker players to become the 2009 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Champion, also becoming the overall most successful player in the history of the tournament. Seed took down female poker pro Vanessa Russo in a best of three matchup, winning two consecutive rounds, taking the title and $500,000 in cash, which was presented by 2008 Champion Chris Ferguson.

One of the best televised poker tournaments, the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, is just around the corner, and the roster of attending poker stars has been announced. 64 players will participate in this year’s competition, among them are 12 former WSOP main-event champs, two Academy Award-nominated actors, and even an all-star baseball player.

Personally, heads-up play is not the strongest part of my poker game, and I don’t typically play for any considerable amount of money on average. Now I have to imagine just how nervous I’d be if instead of winning a few thousand, I could potentially lose a few million. Sound fun?
